Administrative Full-time Position
Reporting to the Executive Dean, the Dean, Undergraduate Studies, provides leadership and management direction to faculty and staff responsible for academic operations, strategic enrolment management, and growth of full-time hybrid/on-campus undergraduate programs in the School. The incumbent leads and supports strategic objectives of the School and College, ensuring alignment with College expectations and procedures, and demonstrating continual improvement in results for students, graduates, employees, and partnerships.
The incumbent represents the College and School externally and undertakes in partnerships and outreach for the School, in consultation with the Executive Dean. The Dean is also accountable for the planning, development, delivery and ongoing review of programs, ensuring they are relevant to the needs of the industry.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 3-4 days on-site, and 1-2 days remote.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the portfolio’s academic plan with engagement of internal and external stakeholders, in alignment with College and School strategic objectives
- Support implementation of the School’s development initiatives, including growth and development of new and existing programming; taking necessary action to align resources and initiate professional development as required to support change and forward movement
- Plan and coordinate the development of new programs and revisions to existing programs, using College and accreditation frameworks and in line with the College’s and School’s strategic plans
- Engage Academic Chairs in developing and implementing a multi-year plan for growth and change, to achieve College goals, in alignment with College procedure; identifying implications for resources to support growth and change
- Represent the School externally and identify potential external opportunities to strategically advance the School and the College, including preparing proposals to external bodies as approved by the Executive Dean/President with input of other senior officials as appropriate
- Represent the School internally through participation on committees, involvement in initiatives, and/or via presentations to other areas of the College, as needed
- Through the School’s Leadership Team, foster a learning culture in the School, with annual recognition of both students and employees that complement College-wide recognition initiatives
- Engage all stakeholders to support an environment of quality and student success, aligning activities of the School with College expectations for academic procedures, accessibility, and enrolment management
- Support and guide the resolution of student and employee concerns, as needed
- Coordinate the annual budget development process per the Executive Dean’s direction and College expectations and the mid-year adjustment review with engagement of leaders and School employees to optimize the use of resources for ongoing sustainability
- In collaboration with HR, oversight of the recruitment, management and development of all School faculty, administration, and support staff employees
- Responsible for facility planning, approving day-to-day improvement requests and making requests through the Executive Dean for major changes in support of strategic plan of the School
- With the School’s Leadership Team and colleagues across the College, lead and champion applied research and scholarship activities and output within the School, through process improvement, resourcing, and mentorship of faculty and staff
- Liaise with the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Centre for Supply Chain Innovation, and Canadian Institute for Health, Safety, and Performance, and other centres, as they emerge, to explore opportunities for faculty-led research and scholarship
- Promote and support opportunities for continued professional development and applied research activity amongst faculty and administrative staff
- In collaboration with other College departments, foster new and existing external partnerships in support of scholarship, research, experiential learning, and other strategic goals
- Identify opportunities for new partnerships to the Executive Dean, with implementation of agreements as required with input from appropriate college personnel
- Plan and support alumni, donor, and partner engagement activities in alignment with strategic goals
- Facilitate implementation of Program Advisory Committee meetings for the portfolio, per College expectations with annual planning with Academic Chairs and attendance at meetings as possible
- With input from the Executive Dean, ensure the School operates in accordance with college policies and procedures, taking action to ensure practices a
Qualification:
- Master’s Degree in Business, Education, or other related field required; Doctoral Degree preferred
- Minimum 11 years of relevant experience, including management in a post-secondary environment
- Exceptional leadership skills demonstrated in a senior level role
- Comprehensive understanding of the Ontario college system and higher education sector as a whole
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Human resource management skills
- Senior management/administration skills
- Knowledge of the polytechnic educational structure
- Developed understanding of curriculum and program planning, development, marketing, delivery and evaluation in an educational setting
- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Strong financial acumen
- Excellent collaboration, negotiating, planning and organizational skills
- Proficient with technology
