Role Overview:
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, Peshawar is pleased to invite applications for a two-year fellowship in Breast Surgery. This is a hospital-based fellowship program designed to offer comprehensive training in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of breast diseases, including breast cancer.
At SKMCH&RC, approximately 1500 new breast cancer patients are seen annually. Every year, over 9000 patients visit the breast outpatient department (OPD), and approximately 2400 breast surgeries are performed. The hospital takes a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer management with specialized teams dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care.
The breast surgical team at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre performs a wide range of procedures for breast cancer management, including lumpectomy (palpable/wire guided), mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and axillary dissection. Trainees will gain hands-on experience in these procedures as well as learn about the medical and non-surgical management of breast cancer.
There is also a strong emphasis on research during the fellowship, with fellows expected to undertake a research project related to their field of training. Additionally, fellows will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing cancer treatment trials.
Job Description:
- The training post is for a period of two years.
- The selected candidate will be involved in patient care across outpatient clinics, inpatient floors, and in the operation theatres.
- The fellow will participate in an on-call rota for the assessment and management of breast and general surgery patients.
- The fellow will be required to engage in the academic activities of the department, including presentations, research, audits, and teaching junior doctors and nurses.
Eligibility / Qualification Required:
- FCPS or CPSP approved equivalent qualification in general surgery
- Registered with PMDC.
