Position Summary

The Tax Research Administrator I (S1) is an entry-level role within the Tax Research team, responsible for supporting the research and resolution of payroll tax notices across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role focuses on building foundational knowledge of payroll tax compliance, performing basic reconciliations, and assisting with case management activities. The position requires strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

What You’ll Do

Tax Notice Research & Resolution Support

  • Research and assist in resolving payroll tax notices for multi-state tax entities under guidance.
  • Support analysis of notices related to filings, payments, and account discrepancies.
  • Assist in identifying issues related to tax setup, wage reporting, and deposits.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior analysts when required.

Reconciliation & Analysis

  • Perform basic QTD and YTD reconciliation of tax amounts (withheld, reported, and deposited).
  • Support payroll register reviews to identify discrepancies.
  • Assist in documenting findings and preparing case summaries.

Case Management & Documentation

  • Maintain and update cases in Salesforce with accurate notes, status updates, and communication logs.
  • Ensure all case documentation is complete, clear, and audit-ready.
  • Follow defined processes and SLAs for case handling.

Agency & Internal Coordination

  • Support communication with tax agencies and internal teams to gather required information.
  • Assist in responding to client and internal inquiries related to tax notices.
  • Learn and utilize tax agency portals for research and verification.

Learning & Development

  • Build foundational knowledge of U.S. payroll taxes (Federal, SUI, SIT, Local).
  • Participate in training sessions and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Stay updated on basic compliance requirements and internal processes.
  • Assist with team projects and operational initiatives as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education

  • Regular Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or related field from a reputed institute.

Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in payroll, tax, finance, or customer service-related roles
  • Basic understanding of payroll or tax concepts (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Prior customer service or operations experience is a plus

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow processes and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word (basic level)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to payroll or tax-related processes
  • Familiarity with case management tools (e.g., Salesforce)
  • Basic understanding of tax agency portals
  • CPP/FPC certification (or interest in pursuing certification)
