Eligibility / Qualification Required:
- The Faculty of Law invites applications for up to two (2) tenure-track appointments in either the Professor or Teaching Professor streams at either the Assistant or Associate levels.
- The start date is July 1, 2026 or such other date as may be negotiated with the successful candidates.
- These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.
- The salary range and fringe benefits for this position are defined in the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) 2022 - 2025 Collective Agreement sections 35 and 36B.
- These positions are part of the Faculty of Law's innovative Strategic Plan, which aims to enhance UNB Law's core curriculum, support a new graduate program, boost its research profile, and develop a range of experiential learning opportunities.
- In pursuing these objectives, the Faculty will emphasize reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Accordingly, the Faculty of Law values having professors from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- At least one of the positions will fill a teaching need in the first-year Criminal Law course, which is six (6) credits.
- In addition to Criminal Law, the successful candidate will teach another six (6) credits of upper-year compulsory or elective courses in their field.
- For Professors, a full course load in the Faculty of Law is 12 credits (typically, two three-credit courses per term).
- For Teaching Professors, a full course load in the Faculty of Law is 15 or 18 credits.
- In addition to Criminal Law, the Faculty is interested in candidates capable of teaching courses in quasi-criminal and regulatory law subjects (e.g. Environmental Law, Natural Resources Law, Securities Regulation, Immigration Law), practice and procedure (e.g. Criminal Procedure, Civil Procedure, Dispute Resolution), workplace law, statutory interpretation, and business law (e.g. Corporate Finance and Maritime Law).
- The Faculty welcomes applications from candidates with research agendas that broadly complement these areas of law.
- For appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor:
- Must have earned a doctorate in law or a related discipline, or be a doctoral candidate nearing completion in their program of study.
- Consideration may be given to candidates who do not have a doctorate, but who show an equivalent level of qualification through a combination of significant professional experience and scholarly activity.
- For appointment as Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor:
- Must have a J.D. degree as well as significant professional experience in the Faculty’s areas of teaching need.
- Preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
