Ngā kōrero mo tēnei tūranga / About the role: We are looking for an experienced Indirect Tax Specialist to play a key leadership role in join our Tax and Legal Services Practice in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland at Director level to provide GST Advisory services to some of New Zealand’s leading organisations on their most complex transactions and GST issues. This is an opportunity to help shape and grow our GST advisory practice, working alongside experienced tax specialists in New Zealand and across the PwC global network. We are investing in the growth of our specialist GST advisory capability and are building the team for the next phase of the practice. Our Indirect Taxes team is passionate about providing clients with innovative solutions to their GST and Customs issues. Much of our work involves helping our clients with their cross-border transactions, property transactions, financial transactions, business sales and restructures, as well as their GST and indirect taxes compliance and risk management. Our team also gets involved in shaping significant indirect taxes law reform and we lead several exciting PwC global indirect taxes initiatives. In your role, you will be delivering bespoke advice and assisting with transactions, compliance work and indirect taxes review assignments. Every business faces indirect taxes issues, and you will be helping clients navigate these challenges. You will be lead complex technical and transaction work, develop senior client relationships, contribute to significant tax policy issues and help grow our GST advisory practice, learning, problem-solving and building client and PwC relationships. Your role responsibilities will include: Leading the analysis of Understanding, researching and applying the relevant tax legislation to complex GST client issues and the development and delivery of pragmatic, commercially focused advice to clients preparing and delivering written and verbal advice to our clients. Provide specialist technical input to teams undertaking indirect tax reviews, to provide specialist input as needed. Engaging with clients to understand their business, the issues they face, and develop solutions to meet their needs. Liaising with other teams and Lines of Service within PwC to deliver the very best in client experience. Assisting the wider team and the overseas PwC network on significant indirect taxes law reform and regular engagement with policy officials. Building the PwC brand in the market through identifying and executing business development opportunities with existing and targeted clients. This role will be focused on GST advisory and transactions, rather than GST compliance.   • Significant experience advising on complex GST/VAT matters, with strong technical expertise developed in professional services, a tax authority, legal practice and/or a senior in-house tax role. New Zealand GST experience would be highly regarded, although strong experience in a comparable VAT/GST jurisdiction is also relevant.
  • Minimum Qualifications: Degree educated, holding a Bachelor's degree. A relevant tertiary qualification and, where applicable, a professional accounting or legal qualification..
  • A legal background would also be an advantage, but is not essential.
  • Proven experience in client relationship management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
