Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)Role OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to deliver complex customer engagements across UKG's HCM, Payroll, and Workforce Management ecosystem. This role combines solution design and hands-on engineering to drive measurable customer outcomes. You will work directly with customers to build production-grade integrations and AI-enabled workflows that accelerate time-to-value and expansion. You will typically own a workstream or engagement with support from Staff and Principal FDEs.
Why This Role MattersYou will help enterprise customers successfully adopt UKG's platform and emerging AI capabilities. This role bridges customer needs with scalable engineering solutions, enabling adoption, expansion, and continuous product feedback.
Key Responsibilities• Deliver integrations and workflow automations across HCM, Payroll, WFM, ERP, IAM, and related systems
• Own technical delivery for a customer workstream from discovery through go-live, with guidance on overall engagement strategy
• Build production-grade components (APIs, event-driven workflows, data pipelines, automation)
• Translate business requirements into clear designs, implementation plans, and operational runbooks
• Partner with customer stakeholders and UKG teams to manage risks, timelines, and change control
• Contribute reusable components, templates, and reference patterns to accelerate future delivery
• Provide structured feedback to Product and Engineering on platform gaps and repeatable customer needs
AI-Enabled Workflow Responsibilities
• Help customers adopt practical AI-assisted patterns within enterprise workflows
• Prototype and implement AI-enabled automation use cases (for example: intelligent intake, summarization, routing, and data extraction) within approved guardrails
• Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and processes using secure, auditable designs
• Apply best practices for enterprise AI security, privacy, governance, and compliance
• Contribute reusable AI workflow examples and implementation notes to the FDE library
Qualifications• 5+ years in software engineering, solutions architecture, or systems integration
• Experience with enterprise integrations (REST APIs, event-driven systems, ETL, and IAM/SSO)
• Cloud architecture experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Experience building and deploying production systems, including monitoring and incident response basics
• Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to explain tradeoffs clearly
• Ability to operate effectively in complex, ambiguous environments and deliver iteratively
AI and Systems Experience
• Hands-on familiarity with AI-enabled tools (LLMs, copilots, workflow automation)
• Understanding of enterprise AI constraints (security, privacy, compliance, and data access)
• Systems thinking across people, process, and technology, including human-in-the-loop designs
• Familiarity with agent patterns (tools, orchestration) is a plus

The pay range for this position is $102,300 to $147,050. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and work location. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus plan and to receive restricted stock unit awards as part of total compensation.
