Key Responsibilities:
Job Summary
To ensure the reliable, efficient, and safe operation of industrial automation and control systems across the manufacturing facility. The Automation Engineer will be responsible for the development, programming, troubleshooting, maintenance, optimization, and continuous improvement of PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, servo, instrumentation, and other industrial automation systems. The position will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, Quality, HSE, and IT teams to minimize downtime, improve machine performance, enhance productivity, and support automation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and update electrical wiring schematics, control drawings, and instrument loop diagrams.
- Specify, select, and appropriately size field instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, and other process sensors.
- Program, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs and HMIs to ensure reliable and efficient machine operation.
- Program and troubleshoot VFDs, panel meters, process controllers, and related control devices.
- Collaborate with electricians and maintenance teams to install, calibrate, test, commission, and loop-check instrumentation prior to system startup.
- Assist Senior Engineers during project execution, commissioning, machine installation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Troubleshoot hardware wiring faults, industrial network communication issues, PLC/HMI problems, and software logic errors.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including instrument data sheets, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, loop diagrams, equipment records, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Ensure all automation designs, modifications, installations, and commissioning activities comply with company engineering standards, HSE requirements, and machine safety protocols.
- Participate in multidisciplinary project meetings, design reviews, technical discussions, and commissioning activities.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance of automation, instrumentation, PLC, HMI, VFD, and control systems.
- Identify opportunities for automation improvement, process optimization, energy saving, and reduction of machine downtime.
- Maintain proper backup of PLC/HMI programs, VFD parameters, and automation-related software.
- Coordinate with Production, Electrical, Mechanical, Maintenance, HSE, and external vendors to resolve automation-related issues.
- Prepare troubleshooting reports, modification records, and technical documentation for completed automation activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional certifications in industrial automation will be an added advantage.
- Required Experience
- 3–6 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with PLC-based industrial machinery.
- Experience in troubleshooting production machines and industrial control systems.
- Experience with HMI, SCADA, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, instrumentation, and industrial communication networks.
- Experience in machine commissioning and automation improvement projects will be preferred.
- Technical Skills
The candidate should preferably have practical knowledge of:
- PLC Programming – Siemens / Allen-Bradley / Mitsubishi / Omron or equivalent.
- HMI Programming and Configuration.
