TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Patient Care: Registrar Family Medicine is involved in assessing, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of medical conditions in patients of all ages. They provide comprehensive care and follow-up treatment.
• Medical Procedures: They assist with or perform common procedures, such as physical examinations, taking medical histories, and interpreting diagnostic tests (e.g., blood tests, radiology reports).
• Emergency Care: In some settings, registrars may be involved in urgent or emergency care, dealing with acute medical situations in family practice.
• Multidisciplinary Teamwork: They collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, allied health staff, and specialists, to provide holistic care for patients.
• Supervised Learning: As a registrar, they are often in the process of specialization or post-graduate training. They will be supervised by senior clinicians and may take part in regular training sessions, workshops, and assessments to further develop their skills.
• Teaching Medical Students/Interns: Registrars often help in the teaching and mentoring of junior medical staff or medical students. They may supervise and guide them in patient care and clinical skills.
• Ongoing Professional Development: Registrars are expected to continue their learning through conferences, courses, and practical experience to meet the requirements for certification and to keep up with the latest advancements in medicine.
• Documentation: Registrars must maintain accurate patient records, including medical histories, diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress notes.
• Referral and Coordination: They may refer patients to specialists or other healthcare services and ensure coordination of care between different providers.
• Compliance and Policies: They must adhere to the institution's policies, healthcare regulations, and ethical guidelines in clinical practice.
• Evidence-Based Practice: Registrars are encouraged to stay current with medical research and evidence-based practices to ensure that patient care is informed by the latest knowledge.
• Quality Improvement Initiatives: They may be involved in audits or improvement projects aimed at improving the quality of care, patient safety, or clinical outcomes.
• Patient Interaction: Effective communication with patients is crucial. Registrars need to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and health promotion advice in a clear, empathetic manner.
• Team Communication: Clear communication with other medical professionals ensures coordinated patient care and reduces the risk of errors or misunderstandings.
• Depending on the healthcare setting, registrars may be required to work on-call shifts or in emergency departments, providing care during evenings, weekends, or holidays.
