Applications are invited for the post of General Manager Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs (IP&LA) at National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST).

Key Responsibilities:

The purpose of this position is to act as the manager of the complete IP lifecycle, including trainings/ awareness sessions etc. at NUST. These include performing routine tasks related to IP matters such as evaluation, drafting and filing of IPs, creating awareness about its importance, conducting seminars, maintaining liaison and building partnerships with relevant bodies.
Strategic IP Management
1. Develop and implement institutional strategies for managing and maximizing the value of NUST’s intellectual property (IP) assets.
2. Formulate and execute policies for IP protection, ownership, enforcement, and commercialization in alignment with NUST’s innovation and commercialization goals.
3. Conduct periodic reviews of IP portfolio performance and recommend strategies for portfolio optimization.
Advisory & Awareness
4. Advise the NUST fraternity — including researchers, faculty, and students on IP protection, ownership, and disclosure procedures.
5. Organize IP awareness programs, training sessions, and bootcamps to strengthen institutional IP culture.
IP Operations & Administration
6. Oversee the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial designs through the Manager IP & Legal Affairs (IP&LA).
7. Conduct due diligence assessments to evaluate the novelty and commercial potential of IP filings.
8. Manage the IP&LA budget and resources and prepare periodic reports for NUST senior management.
9. Maintain an up- to- date record of all IP filings and their status
Legal & Contractual Oversight
10. Review IP-related contracts, including MoUs, licensing agreements, technology transfer contracts, NDAs, and collaboration agreements with industry and academia.
11. Oversee IP infringement cases, liaising with external counsel and relevant authorities where necessary.
Technology Transfer & Commercialization Support
12. Collaborate with Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to support licensing, spin-off creation, and revenue generation from NUST’s IP portfolio.
External Linkages & Partnerships
13. Develop and strengthen strategic linkages with national and international IP organizations such as IPO Pakistan, WIPO, USPTO, and EPO.
14. Explore opportunities for collaborative or joint initiatives to enhance institutional IP capacity and visibility.
Policy, Compliance & Monitoring
15. Ensure compliance with relevant national and international IP laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
16. Monitor global IP trends, technology landscapes, and emerging issues to inform NUST’s IP strategy and capacity development.
Institutional Representation & Events
17. Plan, organize, and manage national and international IP focused events, both independently and in collaboration with partner organizations.
18. Represent NUST at relevant IP forums, conferences, and policy dialogues.
Other Responsibilities
19. Undertake any other tasks assigned by senior management in alignment with the university’s innovation and commercialization agenda.

Eligibility / Qualification Required:

Qualification:Essential Qualifications
Masters in any field of Science, Technology or Engineering from HEC recognized University.
Desirable Qualifications
LLM in Intellectual Property
Experience:
Essential Experience
12+ years in the relevant field from reputed organization.
Desirable Experience
Individual having atleast 5 years managerial experience will be given preference.

General Conditions:

Candidates are required to attach scanned copies of their documents (Academics / Professional). Last education certificate/degree must be attested/verified by HEC.
Candidates may be considered ineligible for the post due to any of the following reasons:

- 3rd Div in academic career / weak academic profile.
- NUST employees with less than one year of service with NUST and / or absence of NOC from Head of Institution.
- In process of pursuing a required degree.
- Medically unfit.
- Only selected candidates will be contacted and issued offer letter.
- Candidates serving in Govt departments, Armed forces may apply through their respective parent department / organizations.
