Role Overview:
SKMCH&RC, Lahore is looking for a highly motivated individual to undertake a one-year fellowship programme in neurosurgery, primarily focusing on tumor surgery. At our hospital, there is a special emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to the management of tumors with site-specific specialist teams comprising of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, specialty physicians, radiologists, and pathologists. The neurosurgery team is part of the surgical oncology department at SKMCH&RC and offers advanced management of brain and spinal tumors with procedures involving neuro-navigation, operating microscope, endoscopic skull base resection, ultrasonic aspirator and spinal fixation. The neurosurgery team at SKMCH&RC performs over 200 tumor surgeries a year, which includes both adult and pediatric cases.
This opportunity offers a unique experience for trainees to learn management of tumors and operative skills in neurosurgery. The training period will prepare them to become skilled surgeons in the field of neuro-oncological surgery according to internationally accepted standards. In addition, the fellow will be encouraged to participate in research, publications and international symposia.
This is a hospital-based fellowship programme, offering hands on training and experience in multi-modal treatment of neuro-oncologic diseases.
Job Description:
This training position is for a period of one year (contingent on regular assessments) and involves:
Supervision by consultant neurosurgeons during the attachment with regular appraisals to ensure adequate progress in training.
Mandatory attendance at the multi-disciplinary team meeting where all patients are discussed on a weekly basis.
Experiencing patient care in outpatient clinics, inpatient floors, and in the operation theatres.
Participation in on-call rotations for assessment and management of patients presenting to the emergency assessment room and inpatient areas.
Participation in the academic activities of the department including presentations, research, audit, and teaching junior doctors and nurses.
Eligibility / Qualification Required:
FCPS Qualified or equivalent (FRCS UK/Aus., American Board Certified) in Neurosurgery.
Valid PMC Registration
