Eligibility / Qualification Required:
The Library Officer supports the day-to-day operations of the library by ensuring the availability, accessibility, and proper maintenance of academic resources. The role contributes to creating an effective learning environment for students and faculty through the delivery of high-quality library services, including cataloging, circulation, user support, and collection management. The Library Officer also assumes operational responsibilities in the absence of the Librarian.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily library operations and maintain an organized, quiet, and student-friendly environment.
- Assist with library operations and provide coverage during the Librarian's absence.
- Organize, shelve, and maintain library materials according to established classification standards.
- Catalog books, digital resources, and audiovisual materials using recognized cataloging systems.
- Maintain accurate physical and electronic catalog records.
- Conduct collection inventories and assist in updating library resources.
- Manage circulation activities, including check-in/check-out procedures and overdue follow-up.
- Assist students and faculty in locating and accessing library resources.
- Deliver orientation sessions and basic information literacy support.
- Support inter-library loan services when required.
- Maintain circulation, inventory, and usage records.
- Monitor damaged, missing, or outdated materials and recommend replacements or withdrawals.
- Prepare reports related to library activities and resource utilization.
- Support faculty by identifying and providing course-related resources.
- Assist in preparing displays, notices, and communications promoting library services.
- Provide basic technical support for media equipment used within the library.
- Participate in the selection and procurement of new library materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Librarian or Academic Affairs leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of experience in an academic or educational library environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System, Library of Congress Classification, or similar systems.
- Familiarity with library databases and cataloging software.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
- Professionalism, confidentiality, and a collaborative mindset.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is preferred.
