Applications are invited for the post of Deputy Director Legal (Litigation & Advisory) at National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST).

Institute: University Main Office (UMO)

Age Limit: 35 - 55 years

Salary: 229000

Key Responsibilities:

To provide strategic legal leadership and expert counsel to the University by managing litigation, safeguarding institutional interests, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, mitigating risks and enabling informed decision-making through proactive legal advisory, effective dispute resolution and robust governance support.

  • Handle recovery cases and all litigation for employees, students, vendors and

stakeholders as an in house lawyer

  • Represent NUST in courts, tribunals, and quasi-judicial forums
  • Approve litigation strategy and engage external legal advisors/firms
  • Negotiate out-of-court settlements
  • Provide legal advisory on institutional and policy matters
  • Interpret government rules, notifications and directives
  • Advise on statutes, university regulations, and audit objections
  • Vet MoUs, AoUs, DoUs, agreements, contracts and all legal documents
  • Review submissions to ministries and other departments where required)
  • Guide harassment cases and internal inquiries
  • Approve legal documents
  • Provide legal input for SPVs/subsidiaries
  • Attend meetings, provide preventive legal advice
  • Supervise case-tracking system and records
  • Mentor supervise and build capacity of staff under to enhance efficiency
  • Support senior management in preventing legal and institutional risks by

developing proactive measures

  • Prepare periodic reports for Dir HR/ Rector on litigation status, & policy compliance.
  • Oversee performance evaluation of external legal counsel and ensure cost-

effective litigation management

  • Ensure compliance with court orders, judgments and implementation of legal

decisions.

Required Skills:

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of Pakistan's employment law, service rules, administrative law, and relevant federal/provincial legislation
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents including notices, briefs, appeals, charge sheets, and contractual instruments
  • Strong litigation management skills with experience coordinating multi-forum legal proceedings
  • Sound understanding of disciplinary and accountability frameworks in public sector institutions
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent cases and deadlines.

Eligibility / Qualification Required:

LLB from HEC recognized University

Desirable Qualifications

LLM from HEC recognized University

Enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council

Experience:

Essential Experience

12 years experience valid experience with any Public Sector Organization

Desirable Experience

Extensive experience in in-house legal advisory and litigation management in a reputable organization, serving in a Head of Legal capacity.

General Conditions:

Candidates may be considered ineligible for the post due to any of the following reasons:

  • 3rd Div in academic career / weak academic profile.
  • NUST employees with less than one year of service with NUST and / or absence of NOC from Head of Institution.
  • In process of pursuing a required degree.
  • Medically unfit.
  • Candidates serving in Govt departments, Armed forces may apply through their respective parent department / organizations.
