Role Overview:
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Research Centre is pleased to invite applications for two-year fellowship in Uro-Oncology. This program is designed for a surgeon who has recently passed the FCPS or equivalent overseas qualification. It would be a good opportunity for someone interested in improving his knowledge and skills in principles and techniques of oncological surgery in urology.
The program's aim will be to inspire the fellow to attain an excellent grasp of the scientific basis of urological malignancy and to prepare him to be a competent practitioner in dealing with common oncological problems related to urology. In the outpatients department the fellow will be able to observe firsthand the initial assessment of urology patients particularly those presenting with urological tumors. Towards the end of the fellowship, the fellow should be able to accurately assess these patients at presentation, order and interpret relevant investigations and formulate logical treatment plans.
The fellow will be actively involved in preoperative care of inpatients under direct supervision and will in turn supervise the work of resident medical staff. There will be ample opportunity in the OR to learn the operative principles of transurethral resection of bladder tumors and prostate. He will also have adequate exposure to radical surgery for testes, renal, bladder and prostate cancers as well as reconstruction techniques. The fellow will actively participate in Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Boards and liaise with other relevant specialties including Medical and Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Pathology and Internal Medicine.
Job Description:
The training post(s) is for a period of two years.
The selected candidate(s) will be involved in patient care in outpatient clinics, inpatient floors, and in the operation theatres.
They will participate in an on-call rota for assessment and management of patients presenting to the emergency assessment room.
They will be expected to participate in the academic activities of the department including teaching, research and audit.
Eligibility / Qualification Required:
MBBS
FCPS in Urology or equivalent
Valid PMC Registration
One-year experience after completion of FCPS or equivalent is preferred
