Key Responsibilities:
To support the administration, monitoring, and optimization of the university’s Huawei SDN based core network infrastructure, ensuring
high availability, security, and compliance with institutional ICT policies.
· Assist the Network Engineer and Manager Core Network in daily core network operations.
· Monitor network performance, identify irregularities, and escalate issues promptly.
· Configure and maintain distribution layer switches and apply firewall security policies.
· Implement network segmentation, access controls, and security enforcement mechanisms.
· Maintain updated documentation for network topology, configurations, and change management.
· Collaborate with ICT Operations teams for troubleshooting and service restoration.
· Participate in internal and external network audits and ensure compliance with ICT standards.
· Contribute to capacity planning, system optimization, and future network upgrades.
Required Skills:
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
Essential
· Strong understanding of Layer 2/3 routing & switching.
· Proficiency with firewall configurations and traffic policy enforcement.
· Hands-on experience with Huawei network devices and monitoring tools.
· Good analytical and incident response capabilities.
· Familiarity with network CLI commands
· Strong documentation and reporting skills
Desirable
· Familiarity with network automation and scripting
· Exposure to campus-wide network deployments
· Technical documentation and reporting proficiency
Eligibility / Qualification Required:
Qualification:Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, Telecom Engineering or equivalent along with Huawei or equivalent specialized trainings
Experience:
Essential Experience
Minimum 3 years in network administration and firewall Ops along with working on familiar NMS
Desirable Experience
Experience with Huawei SDN and eSight NMS

- NUST employees with less than one year of service with NUST and / or absence of NOC from Head of Institution.
