Role Overview:
This is a post designed to support and enable the further development of specialist internal medicine services at SKMCH&RC. The post-holder will participate in the provision of nephrology services in the outpatient clinics, on the inpatient floors and in the emergency and assessment room, and will support and enhance the current nephrology service at the hospital. The appointee will be expected to provide medical expertise in the day to day management of sick cancer patients. The prime role of the appointee will be to supervise and be responsible for the care of cancer patients with renal disease, and to advise colleagues in the optimal management of such illnesses. There is also a commitment to the general medical care of cancer patients admitted to the hospital.
It is expected that the post-holder will demonstrate excellence in provision of all aspects of medical care for which he/she is credentialed. The successful applicant will therefore have a thorough grounding, both by training and experience, in all aspects of nephrology and be able to take independent clinical decisions in a skilled and effective manner.
The appointee will be expected to participate in research and publish in peer reviewed journals. He/she will also be expected to participate in teaching of residents, fellows and ancillary staff along with development and delivery of educational programmes for internal and external candidates.
SKMCH&RC is committed to the multi-disciplinary model of service provision. It is expected that, in keeping with institutional policy and practice, the post holder will participate fully in multi-disciplinary team meetings, as appropriate to the nature of his/her work.
The post is full-time, based at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Lahore.
Eligibility / Qualification Required:
- MRCP (UK) and three years experience of working in the UK, together with an appropriate CCST.
- American board in internal medicine, with sub-speciality board in nephrology.
- Medical practitioner with full and unencumbered registration with the PMDC.
- Evidence of extensive experience in a variety of in- and out-patient treatment facilities and settings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to relate to patients and relatives in an understanding and sympathetic manner
- Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
