Role Overview:
This is a post for a highly motivated and committed individual to undertake a key role as Consultant Upper GI Surgeon in Surgical Oncology. The post is based at one of the Hospitals of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust.
The appointee is expected to lead and strengthen Upper GI Surgery services through site-specialized, multidisciplinary cancer care. Deliver expert surgical management of esophageal, gastric and duodenal diseases while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary tumor boards, oncologists, anesthetists and Allied Healthcare Professionals to provide outstanding patient care. Contribute to the development of Upper GI surgical services, participate in emergency and on-call surgical care, and uphold the highest standards of clinical excellence. Support the education and mentorship of medical staff and trainees while actively engaging in clinical research, academic activities and publications to advance Surgical Oncology.
Eligibility / Qualification Required:
- Appropriate postgraduate qualification such as FCPS in General Surgery / FRCS (UK, Canada, Australia) with CCT/CSST in General and Upper GI surgery and/or evidence of satisfactory completion of sub-specialty training in Upper GI oncological surgery or equivalent.
- American Board certification in surgery, with further fellowship in Upper GI oncological surgery or equivalent.
- Postgraduate degree is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to relate to patients and relatives in an understanding and sympathetic manner.
- Ability to cope with developments, change and stress.
- Ability to make independent and appropriate decisions.
